1. Purpose
These terms apply where JAE provides a participant with a bicycle, helmet, bottle, lock, GPS device or other equipment for the duration of a tour. Rental is linked to a specific booking and is normally not a standalone service unless otherwise agreed in writing.
2. Collection and inspection
On collection, the participant must check for visible damage and check the operation of the brakes, gears, tyres and adjustments.
Any irregularities must be reported before the ride begins.
JAE selects the bicycle size and type based on availability and the participant’s information. A specific model is not guaranteed unless expressly confirmed.
Saddle adjustment and other minor adjustments are made before the start. Unauthorised work on brakes, drive train, motor, software or construction is prohibited.
3. Rules of use
The bicycle must be used carefully, for the agreed tour and in accordance with instructions.
A helmet is mandatory.
The bicycle must not be lent to a third party, left unsecured or used for competition, jumps or terrain for which it is not intended.
The participant must stop immediately if a fault, unusual sound, damage or unsafe behaviour of the bicycle is noticed.
After a fall or collision, the guide must be informed immediately even if no damage is visible.
4. E-bikes
Before the start, the participant must understand the operation of the motor assistance, display, brakes and battery.
Battery range depends on weight, assistance level, climbing, temperature, wind and riding style; a stated range is not guaranteed.
The participant must follow instructions concerning assistance level, battery saving and charging.
Removing the battery, altering speed restrictions or connecting unapproved devices is prohibited.
5. Breakdowns and assistance
In the event of normal mechanical failure not caused by the participant, JAE will make reasonable efforts to provide repair, replacement or another solution. Continuation of the tour, a route change or transport is determined according to safety and availability. A minor defect that can be safely repaired does not automatically entitle the participant to a refund of the full price.
6. Damage, loss and theft
The participant is not responsible for normal wear or a defect arising during correct use. The participant is responsible for proven damage or loss caused intentionally, through gross negligence, failure to follow instructions or clearly improper use. Compensation is calculated according to the reasonable actual cost of repair or replacement, taking account of the age and condition of the equipment.
Theft or loss must be reported to JAE immediately and, where appropriate, to the police. The participant must cooperate in explaining the incident and making an insurance claim.
7. Return
Equipment must be returned immediately after the tour at the agreed location with all accessories. JAE may inspect it on return or within a reasonable period afterwards, particularly where possible damage is not immediately visible. JAE will inform the participant of identified damage and, on request, provide a reasonable explanation of the cost.
8. Restriction and refusal of use
JAE may refuse delivery or continued use if the participant cannot operate the bicycle safely, is under the influence of alcohol or other substances, refuses to wear a helmet, uses the equipment contrary to instructions or another serious safety risk exists. Such a decision is made for safety reasons and does not exclude the applicable cancellation or liability rules.
